After a little hicup (or six!), the registrations are now finally open for the 'Boven Roc Rally - http://www.rocrope.com/home.html

Do not hesitate to call us for further info, accommodation options or an explanation of the rules. Andrew P, you can maybe read through them to check mistakes/improvements if you are still looking for something to do?

Please note that only pre-registrations before the cut-off date (to be announced) will qualify for a free T-Shirt.

As a newcomer to this Roc Rally thing, I'm wondering about the complicated handicap system.

After many hours of scribbling on the back of an envelope left me frustrated and unable to solve the formula, I finally resorted to developing a sophisticated computer model and have been able to determine my handicap grade. Unfortunately, I'm not quite satisfied. Should I floor or ceiling my floating point result (that means decimal chaps) to get an integer result for my handicap grade!?

An example in the form of a multiple choice question:

Johnny is travelling East at 50 km/hour when he calculates his handicap grade to be 18.5. Meanwhile Angie is travelling West-North-West at 142.3 km/hr and comes to the conclusion that her handicap grade is 23.5.

What handicap grades will the judges (whose decision is final) award to Johnny and Angie?

(a) Johnny 18 and Angie 23
(b) Johnny 19 and Angie 24
(c) Johnny 19 and Angie 23 - because Angie is hot
(d) Johnny 18 and Angie 24 - because Johnny's dad is a sponsor
(e) None of the Above

1. If you have technical questions, contact the guys that developed the technology to drive this beast - http://www.nasa.com

2. Read rule # 21 carefully :
Quote:
...the chief judge will make decisions and adjustments at random if he suspects that climbers misinterpreted the terms or other rules of the Roc Rally.

Want to score bonus points before you even have your harness on?

Just register.

This way you can help us plan better and have more toys for you to play with than just the 2 wheelchairs... :bom:

Howzit Goodstuff! Looking forward to seeing you guys again.

To the greater community

I'll be be landing in JHB [OR Thambo] on Thursday evening the 23rd of September and then departing [same] some time in the evening on Sunday the 26th of September. Roughly 18:00 by the look of it. I intend hiring a car and wouldn't mind splitting the cost with AN-other. So if you are an AN-other and not a butt-abusing-psychopath and are keen, drop me a text on 082 921 7368. Alternatively - if you are prepared to offer me a lift I don't mind splitting petrol and toll fare ... and buying the beers at the drinking hole of your choice to slake off the dust from the arduous journey upon our arrival in Bovan.

Cheers
Angus

Ag, its a long story. Basically all you need extra is nuts bru! You don't really need a lot of friends either, but jislaaik they help a lot! And I'm not talking about the kinda friends you make at places like Cams Bay or that castle with the round table.

I was just checking the route list for the Rally, everyone has a chance of doing well in this year!!! Extra bonus points have been assigned to encourage guys and girls with high handicaps; having a high handicap is NOT an excuse anymore. Then of course there will be the redpoint day on the second day. Overall, its really going to come down to effort - anyone could win if they try hard enough! Gus will be posting the route list very soon. Andrew

Please note the rules have been adjusted - it is up to you to read them carefully! In fact, you may even score more points this way... http://www.rocrope.com/rocrally.html

Thanks Andrew and Kyle for helping to keep things real!

High bonuses! Sounds like fun. Gus when can we see these alleged bonuses? I would love to see them so that I can do some mental math and maybe do some planning. Was thinking about hitting Lotters, Snapdragon, Monster, Hypertension, Fever, and a few other 25-27s for the first day with Godzilla for the second. Would love to see how this would play out against the super enduro players.

No Brian ... you'll have to climb HARD if you want to win !!!

I will put a bonus point route list up very soon ... just to look at - note this will not be a final-final list, but pretty much 98.351% of what you can expect on Friday!

Sweet dreams.

Dogs. There are already too many dogs (the canine type) at the roc rally. Please do not take your dog with this weekend.
