Great work to all getting Joey out here, he is a super motivated climber; we can learn a lot from him and he will have a great time in SA. If you are in Joburg, go see the slide show, it will get you psyched! Whoever is taking to the crags..make sure he does the classics! Andrew

Who's gonna go to Monte Casino?

What about a more well known venue? Just thought...

Like what? London Bridge?

If you live in JHB, Monte Casino sadly is a lot more well known than some girl guide hall if that's what you're referring to (I love that girl guide hall, BTW)

A venue change 2 days before the event for something organised already is unrealistic. Just a thought

Oops, my bad. Got brainfart-confused with Grand West Casino in Cape Town. Yep, Monte Casino is probably well known enough, haha (laughing at myself).

Erm, don't know what to say about your girl guide hall tho.... if I was you...

Been chatting with Joey a little via email, he seems awesome... I've got a big list of routes recommended for him at Boven. He is seriously excited!

Hi

Yesterday morning Joey did a quick trip to Choss, and did Fossil Fuel (32) second go  , also opened the 31 to the left of it. That evening he gave a totally amazing slide show. His movies are world class. He is here for another 8 or so weeks. Currently he is training the youth team who are going to the IFSC World Champs in August at the Barn in Pretoria. Next is Boven and after that KZN.

He is really close to nabbing the 3rd ascent of RODAN (34). On his second go he only hung once. Tomorrow will be exciting. Joey also has draws up on Raptophilia (32). I'll keep everyone updated if I see something.

Yesterday Joey did the third ascent of Rodan (34). It took him 4-5 attempts over two days. About an hour later he did the second ascent of Raptophilia (32) also taking 5 attempts over two days. Joey was very excited about the lines here in Boven and was loving every moment of his time on and off the rock. Colette was getting very close on Snapdragon (29) after a day of work. They are currently in the Kruger and will be back in Boven for another 3 days of solid climbing.

On the tick list for Joey:
Godzilla (32)
Vorpal Sword (31)
The Overlord Project (33/34?)

He was very excited to see such an awesome looking line traversing the blank red face next to Butterfly. Best of luck!

We bumped into Joey and Colette yesterday evening and watched him hike Snapdragon (as a warm up?) without a hint of a pump!! Very inspiring.

Sweet man it's awesome he is doing things fast. What about frazzle, Satans temple, mind games proj, heaven's above proj etc. He has repeated a couple of routes now how about trying to open a route? First ascent's are where it's at.

Just a thought.

Hey hey. I have heard through the grapevine that Colette sent snapdragon and monster in boven.
Sounds like everyone had a great day in the wave cave yesterday. Joey sent Barricade (32) second go! And I see the kids were cranking lots too. Joey and colette loved it so much they are going back today. Perhaps Scott can keep us updated on what else gets sent.
Don't forget the slide show at Berea Rovers this Wed (20th July)! Greatly entertaining.

Paragon and Big Mo (both 30) on-sight - plus plenty of boring easier stuff OS - Cyclone Central (28), Moment of Inertia (27), Invertigo (27), others?. Greasy conditions hampering efforts on the hard stuff unfortunately..
