Hi everyone,
I received communication from the Cheif inspector : Traffic Services this morning
Good morning all
As previously discussed please be advised that the N1 ( incoming and outgoing) will be CLOSED from 19:00 on Friday 12th May until 05:00 on Monday 15th May 2017 due to the Old Oak Bridge ( Piet’s bridge) being demolished. It would be appreciated if you could inform all your family, friends, colleagues, business partners etc. of this closure as it is going to have a major impact on the flow of traffic along this route. There are alternative routes, which will be signposted, but we are recommending that motorists use the R300 and N2 if they have to go to the city or direction of Paarl.
Many thanks

Road Closure - Old Oak Bridge, Cape Town
Re: Road Closure - Old Oak Bridge, Cape Town
What? This has to be a hoax? Why on earth would they just demolish that bridge, are they going to build a new one overnight
And for what reason?

Re: Road Closure - Old Oak Bridge, Cape Town
It falls part of the N1 upgrade project

The scope of the work spanning four phases will include:
additional lanes on the carriageways of the freeway to improve traffic safety and capacity,
new auxiliary lanes to improve weaving conditions,
extension of the existing concrete median barrier to prevent head-on collisions,
intersection improvements at various parts of the freeway,
demolition and reconstruction of the Old Oak West bridge and repairs to other bridges along the freeway.

As far I know they are removing the bridge so that they can widen the road to 3-4 lanes either way and (maybe) build on and off ramps for it that allow getting on and off the N1 North and South.Jarrett wrote:What?
