Mayhem Highline Festival

Date: 8-11 August
Location: Waterval boven - Mayhem Crag.

What to expect:
This festival will open your eyes to the wonderful and exhilarating world of Highlining! To walk in the sky and be totally in control of your mind and body while dancing in the wind is a feeling that only a few people know and appreciate. We want to spread that feeling with everyone who has ever been curious or keen to walk the line in the sky, all the while knowing that you are completely secured and tied into safety.
The festival will offer 6 – 7 Highlines for people with all ranges of skill, from never having been on a slackline before right up to casually crushing the 90m line. The line distances will range from 25m all the way up to a whopping 90m line! All these lines will be rigged by experienced highliners, so it is a safe environment to come and experiment with what the sport is all about.
While being in Boven why not try out some of the best Sport Climbing that South Africa has to offer! With well over 600 climbs on orange quartz to keep you busy when you are not on the highline. There are also many hiking routes in the Mayhem and Tranquilitas area if enjoying breath-taking scenery is your speciality. Along with many established mountain biking trails that can keep you busy throughout the day, while you patiently wait for the golden twilight hour to come so that you can meditatively walk the highline.

Accommodation:
There are two main sites of accommodation to consider for the event.
• Mayhem Mountain Adventures
o R50 an evening for camping
o Basic Facilities including:
 Toilets
 Hot Showers
 Communal kitchen area
o Bookings to be made with Keenen: 072 439 1550 or 072 202 1600
• Tranquilitas Adventure Farm
o R80 an evening for camping
o Chalets and Perma tents please inquire the prices at http://tranquilitas.com/
o Well established facilities including:
 Toilets
 Hot Showers
 Communal kitchen area

All of the Highlining will be done at the Mayhem Crag. This crag is within walking distance from both the campsites, 20 min walk from Tranquilitas and a 5 min walk from the Mayhem Mountain Adventures.
This festival is also something of an opening event for Mayhem Mountain Adventures, seeing that they have allowed us to rig on their private property and are looking to branch into the tourism industry for climbers and highliners. So if you are not too fussy, keen to spend most of your time on the lines and in the mood for a discount adventure, I would really recommend you come rough it out at Mayhem Mountain Adventures.
No matter where you stay the Highlines are open to everyone free of charge!

How to get there:
If you are driving from Gauteng get onto the N4 Highway until you reach a town called take the off ramp into the town. This rout is to avoid the R100 Tollgate just before you hit Waterval Boven. Once in Machadodorp/eNtokozweni take the 4th left onto the R541. Follow the R541 for about 13km until you come to the first opportunity to make a left turn, there is a sign that says ‘Slaaihoek’. Follow this road for 3km, drive slowly or you might miss the ‘Waterval Boven’ sign, turn left into the dirt road. This dirt road is maintained by Sappi so it should be ok, even for city cars. Take it easy though. Follow the dirt road for about 6.5km. You will come to a fork in the road. If you are staying at the Mayhem Mountain lodge turn right and follow the signs to the camp ground. If you are staying at Tranquilitas Adventure Farm keep left and you will eventually see the signs indicating the camp ground on the right hand side of the road.
