yip I've been there.
take crampons and an ice axe :)
that stuff is soft volcanic ash compacted into a sort of 'roc'
It's very friable and you can dig a room out with a spade in a few hours. There are entire underground cities that early Christians built when they were being persecuted.

Yeah, it's a very cool to check out, but as Brussel says the rock is very soft. I couldn't resist though and climbed up a very low angled dome that looked ok, but it was like climbing kitty litter and I slid back 1 pace for every 2 forward, and basically glissaded back down and stopped in a pile of gravel at the bottom. Not recommended.

Was going to go there at the end of the year but we are rather staying South West. Looks amazing!
