So i'm off to the seychelles for honey moon.

I heard that there is some climbing to be sampled.

Has any one been there?

Is it worth making the effort?

thanks

I was in the Seychelles before I started climbing (although such a time seems immensely far away). Mahe (the main island) has huge towering black faces (granite I think). Lots of slabs and a few crack systems. The whole time I was there I stared up at them, perhaps a portend of me becoming a climber later in life... I would say that it would be a pity to not try some climbing there although I doubt you want to drag a trad rack all the way there - I'd personally rather drag my SCUBA gear out there than a rack. There are quite a few websites regarding climbing on the islands.

Either way you will have an amazing time - ENJOY!

The amzing boulders you see in photos are on La Digue Island. I remember reading an article by Martin Crocker in an old climbing magazine and know of at least one other person who has climbed there (if you really want to I can put you in touch).

Apparently a lot of the formations are depressingly blank, rough rock and pretty high, but could possibly be toproped. There is some potential for bouldering, but the heat and humidity combined with the blankness will restrict skin life

Hi

Been there, the rock is very much like Lions Head Granite, OK but not tremendous. Beaches are awesome though.

One of the adventure companies in Seychelles is SMAC Adventures - they control a few easy climbing areas on one of the islands. We did some resoles for them during the past year.

The owner is Johan Cronje. He will be able to give you some pointers on the 'nice' climbing areas.

Thanks for all the replies guys,

I'll give johan a call.

Now i just have to convince my fiancee that it is good for our relashinship to let me go climb on our honeymoon.

That task is at least grade 29

I'll let the forum know if it went my way.

Cheers
