Postby DamageINC » Thu Sep 19, 2013 11:35 am

Hi - a quick Q, is Eagles Foley a Sport or Trad Route?
On the site is says 200m (16 grade) - any info on number of pitches & req Quick Draws? Abseil Points?

Thanks

Eagles "Folly" not Foley...

Trad route, not sport, totally worth a climb. Wear long pants for the walk off, the bushes are MEAN
Happy climbing

Thanks!
Now all I would need is to be a Trad climber (on the ToDo list)

8 pitches if memory serves (including a short traverse).
A normal rack will get you to the top - a #4 Camalot is useful but not essential.

In addition to long pants, definitely take a pair of walking shoes for the walk down.

For the most part Ed's advice for the route is quite useful "Climb 50 meter's, make a stance and repeat"

Bit of trivia on the route:
Eagles Folly was the first rock climbing route in Montagu.
It is called Eagle's Folly because Greg Moseley had to climb over a nest in the chimney (of the 2nd last pitch) and there was a young bird there and it squawked and squawked and then took off between his legs for what was probably it's first flight..! The nest was still there (abandoned) when he repeated it a few years ago.
