Mentor session

Postby illona » Mon Nov 04, 2013 12:41 pm

Hi guys and gals

I often get asked for advice on training, climbing, etc. It strikes me that there isn't a big mentorship mindset in SA (especially amongst the female climbers which we are woefully lacking) and I think this is important. I've been lucky enough to have climbed with some of the international climbers that have visited our crags over the years and there is always something that I have gotten out of the experience. Now I can't claim to have nearly as much experience or exposure as these climbers but I think it is worthwhile having a mentor program. I would like to know what the interest from the community is. I'm not looking to make anything out of this. I'm just amped to pump some fresh life into the local climbing scene.
So my proposal is that if you would like some help with your climbing then join me for a weekend in Boven. The proposed date is the 16/17th Nov (next weekend). To join in please PM me, let me know what aspects of your climbing you would like to work on. I'll send back some questions to see where you're at. The biggest criteria is that you have some psyche.
In order to give enough individual attention I think a max of 5 climbers would be best. I know Elzanne is already on board (and might have already recruited one or two other climbers already). If you're psyched enough to find a way to push your climbing then take this opportunity.

Hi Illona, that sounds like a really good idea! I'll throw my hat into the ring as well. I'd love to help out for a weekend for fun and great climbing!

Candice, I think this is a great idea! I would love to join! I havent used the climbing website before, so don't know how to message you, but please contact me on my email address: karinebezuidenhout@gmail.com? I am amped to climb. My biggest problem is that I'm scared shitless to lead climbs, even though I can climb a 20 fairly comfortable on top rope. I would really love to meet other lady climbers as well.

Its a little late but my partner (a female guide) and I are fliying into CPT early Dec and we would love to help out with this if there is another time in the next 3 months! We are both full time guides in the Southwestern US, everything from Big-wall Aid to cragging and canyoneering. American Mountain Guide Association, and Professional Climbing Guides Institute certified. Education is Prevention!

Hi everyone

For some reason yesterday was the magical day to start receiving PMs about the mentor session. Stoked about the response and i will get back to all of you individually. Unfortunately my travel plans to Boven for this weekend have fallen through so I would like to reschedule for some time in December. Will look at the logistics today and try decide on a new date. For those of you who have already responded, please let me know what date would suit you. Shot.
