I found an old Whillans harness in the big pool at Wilgepoort about 6 months ago. It was one flood away from washing off the rocks and sinking to the bottom. I came across it again while doing some housekeeping tonight.

Does anyone know who's it is? It doesn't look too old. The webbing looks in a decent condition. Some parts look better than my current gear-loop. It feels more comfortable than my current BD harness. I haven't hang-tested that yet.

Here are some pics:

Not too old? It's a classic Troll Whillans, which I don't think lasted beyond the late 70s?

Bit of a museum piece!

Anyone who thinks a Whillans is more comfortable than a BD harness (or any harness post 1980 for that matter) is delusional & thus will think that a Whillans is "not that old"! :jocolor: :thumright

On the other hand some people can climb stuff in a Whillans that I would not even try! Still - that does not look like a good idea for continued use - maybe a museum somewhere?

Donate it to a climbing museum! Bring it to us, we have a bunch of old things that we'll be putting up on a wall on the lodge at some stage...
