This is the Swazi Wall. Awkward Ape and Crackattack are both single pitch. The abseil point is indicated by the red 'X'. A small but sturdy tree provides a convenient exit point. The ab-station consists of some old sport rope and a bow shackle. It is advisable to bring some of your own ab-tat, as the sun punishes textiles rather quickly round these parts.

Tony Lourens has brought out a guide(tte) for this area. It is a slim volume that covers all the sport and trad routes of the area, although some of the newer routes are obviously not included. The wiki-link on www.climbing.co.za has a write up for Meanderthal. There is also a book available for perusal at the Rooiberg campsite's reception. Most of the new routes are written up in this book, so it is well worth checking it out.

There was another thread where the topo for Meanderthal was posted, but it was slightly incorrect. I have posted here a more accurate topo.

Oooh - while we're on exact location of lines.... I happened to notice that the topo showing the Swazi wall is just slightly incorrect with regards to Crackattack. Crackattack gets through that first overlap at the notch in the roof some 2 metres to the right of that grass tuft. On the topo you can clearly see a small, square, brown undercut and inset section of the face immediately right of the whitish rock with the missing bottom right hand corner. Crackattack goes directly up the (awkward) undercut corner formed at the junction of that whitish rock and brown inset face and then crosses Meanderthal and continues straight up an overhanging fingerlock crack.

Enjoy!

Thanks for posting the correction to Meanderthal's top pitch. It really is a great line. Thanks buddy!
