Climbing at Wolfberg and/or Tafelberg post fire?

Postby abrainard01 » Sun May 14, 2017 10:20 pm

Does anyone have any information on the state of climbing at Wolfberg or Tafelberg since the fire? Any chance it is open this week for a pair of struggling trad climbers.

Give Sanddrif (Wolfberg) & Driehoek (Tafelberg) a call; they'll know whether it's open for hikers

Tafelberg will be getting really chilly...... Rooiberg might be a good alternative

The whole of 'Area B' - which is the burnt area and includes Tafelberg and Wolfberg, is closed.

The situation will be re-evaluated by Cape Nature 'at the end of winter' (November?) to ascertain the extent of the re-growth.
Wolfberg is on private property and the landowner has said he is hoping to have Wolfberg open for the December holidays - again, subject to evaluation on ecological grounds.

The ban is both for good ecological reason, and now would also be a particularly bad time to disregard the CapeNature policy on it - we'd like them on-side when comes to discussing closures and re-openings.

With just a bit of imagination there is a whole world of trad out there - you just have to go find it.
