Man with rifle on TM

Post by Outthere » Mon Sep 11, 2017 10:38 am

While hiking up Kasteelspoort last Friday morning, I was passed by a guy wearing green, and carrying a silenced rifle. I asked him if he had been out hunting tahrs, and he mumbled something about "robbers".

Anyone know anything? Is this a new SANParks security initiative?

Hi Outthere,

I put your 'mention' through to some relevant persons and the general feeling is, that it was a TMNP person on the hunt for Tahrs.
I'll try and get a confirmation (don't hold your breath).

My feeling (also) is that the person carrying the rifle should have identified himself and given you a more informative (rest assured) answer.
An additional sidekick (spotter) would be a good idea IMO (but that's another thing).

Anyhow, rather odd... :? :?:
Thanks for mentioning it :thumleft:

p.s. IMO Parks really should have put this (Tahr hunting) up for sport hunters... 25kUSD per Tahr 😉

Leave the Tahrs alone. Hunt the muggers.

I too have asked a Sanparks ranger and he will investigate and get back to me
