How do you fix them? I found a Dr Cam kit on the web for 40 dollars.

I've had pretty good results by replacing broken trigger wires with heavy-duty fishing line (get the 200kg stuff from a sport shop).

i replaced the wires on my #4 friend and #3 Camalot over a year ago and they still work like a charm.

Should cost you about R20 for enough line to fix 1000 cams.

I have seen some of that nylon coated trace wire in fishing tackle shops – that would also probably do the trick. If you use pliers you can tie overhand knots to lock it off.

I've fixed a couple of broken trigger wires. I used trace wire that I bought from a fishing store (MIAS in Woodmeade, JHB). Remember to take along a piece of your origional trigger wire to get the right gauge. The wire is quite costly about R100 for 10m or so but that should last you a lifetime. You can also buy metal crimping sleaves at the fishing store, they should be at least 2.5 time the diameter of the wire your have but they're not costly items so if you get it wrong it's not a huge deal. Then you need to get your hands on a crimping tool and a set of wire-cutters. The actual replacing of the wires is pretty easy so I'm not going to go into detail.

I have never replaced a trigger wire with weed-eater cord but I have tried to remove an over-cammed unit with weed-eater trigger wires. The weed-eater cord doesn't do so well (IMHO) cos it stretches when you really yard on it. Ended up coaxing the beast out with a nut-tool.

You can buy a trigger kit for R70 @ CityROCK. Its way cheaper to buy the trigger kit than replacing your cam.
