Hi All

I know this is a Kak topic but just wanted to inform you all that there have been quite a number of incidents at Strubens recently. In the last 3 weekends that i have been there, my mates car was stolen and there was an attempted theft of a Polo.

They did not get away with the Polo but they destroyed the ignition and got away with R8000 worth of trad gear. The owner had to get his car towed.

Advice: Park at the Spar and walk up. It take 10 minute extra.

Please spread word

Yeh, Strubens parking is bad. My bakkie got stolen there as well.
It occured on a Sunday, after 14:30 and there were loads of climbers there. They sure know how to spoil a climber's day, and fast.
Take care

im guessing this is going to open the can of worms again , around the topic of having a security guard posted there on weekends . It might need to be looked at seriously ? any suggestions.. from what i recall , it was suggested that regular climbers to strubens pay into a kitty R30 -R50 per month for eg. and if there are 30 - 50 regulars then we can easily pay someone R1500 - R2000 p/m or a security firm to be there weekends only ..it works out to R200 per day, but im not sure what these guys charge and what happens on rainy days etc etc , lots of variables..anyway just a thought and maybe we can get an idea of numbers of regular climbers at strubens , it would be interesting never the less..to start off i climb with 6 -8 guys ..

so as active climbers, people who enjoy being fit, we should pay for a car guard just so we don't take the good advice above and park at the spar and get a good warm up hike.

it's like having an escalator leading into the gym...

just a thought.

Good one ..hey im all for being fit and no harm in the hike.
but what about ...
a)people in a hurry b) big groups of kids that climb there some days c) being mugged walking up from Spar .
Wont the thieves move onto spar then or wait along the route from spar for easy targets ( i sometimes arrive at differnet times to my buddies and will have to walk there on my own or with my wife..)

Just think a deterrent by having a presence there would make the would be thieves think twice.

My gym has an escalator but i choose to climb up the side of the building to enter ;-)
