Hi All,

A couple of users have contacted us about the user ‘8a_climber’ regarding Private Messages that he has sent out.
The messages have been bad-mannered, offensive and vulgar.

The username 8a_climber, Jonny_Knoxville and Guest have all been banned on ClimbZA (meaning they cannot be used to submit messages or post on the forum).
Should anyone receive an unsolicited message from any user on this forum, please contact us immediately, do not delete the message and do not respond to the message.

Good. The line was crossed some time ago.

You should put up a banner saying : \"Don't feed the trolls\".

No doubt he will re-emerge from where he lives in his mother's basement with a new username. Justin's going to have his hands full with a bout of 'Squish the Troll' :-)

Well, we know 8a has an arrogant/offensive streak, now lives outside the country and climbs/boulders fairly hard. He also has a fair amount to say about Cape Town, although has obviously spent time at Boven as well. I'd say he's someone who's been in the scene for quite a while. How many people could it be?

While we're talking about complaints, have you received any regarding the shape of Fanta's nose?

Steve, there is one fairly obvious person (if the bit about climbing hard is to be believed) but he certainly doesn't fit on the offensive/arrogant streak. Plus the guy im thinking about already has a profile on here and posts informative and helpful stuff.

I'm really thinking the '8a' in 8a_climber he got from the site - the only 8a he ever climbed was from his chair onto the keyboard.

I'll never look at fanta's nose in the same way...

Howdy Fanta and other gents

I've always surfed (and still do) and often get dissillusioned by the ''heavy'' dealt out by some surfers at localised spots. Surfing historically has always been a ''loved up'' and ethical sport.

Thats the one thing that really appealed to me about climbing is how friendly eveyone is to each other at the crag. Regardless of what grades you climb people are always willing to give you the time of day and have a laugh. Climbers are cool bunch and I hope that never changes.
So to answer your question Fanta...i always check out the ZA website and often see whats happening on the forum. Once or twice I've noticed an arrogant or aggro comment by 8a and thought ''aah no not this in climbing as well''.
So thought i would eventually register and give my two cents worth
I'm glad to see from the other responses on this forum that this dude is a very sorry exception to a great sport with great people.

I doubt 8a climber would live with his or her mother. It sounds to me like he's a drifter.

Nosmo, regarding what you said about 8a not being able to climb hard routes, well, you're wrong. Not to brag, but I sent 32 last weekend, soon to send 'two to win' at outsies.....so, why not watch the news close and see if you can beat old steveyB at his sleuth work.

Eish nosmo, you're are not kind to us who have to earn a living, look after a families and can ONLY get to the crags over weekends, and then it is like once a month, if we are that lucky. Sure us \"sad over-weight office bound weekend warriors\" would love to be less sad, less over wieght, and less office bound, and more week warriors, like you happy, strong, tanned, well-built, free-spirited week warriors, but then warriors need GENERALS - a soldier without a leader is of no use, no matter how well trained...

Hysterical! Hes back! At least 'ultimate (well hung, Super build, tanned gorgeous, Im soooooooooooo cool) climber has a sense of humor. Such a pity about the abhorrent abusive personality though! -May your grips chip and shatter.

Paul- yeah I surf too, I left surfing years ago because of the over commercialisation of the sport and aggro in the water. But have started again recently (stupid to have let a few idiots put me off doing something I love in the first place!) and am enjoying it despite the hustle and tussle. Climbing is cool, imagine having to scrabble to get on a route with the better climbers getting their way more often than not, swearing and shouting at each other in the process. Climbing is super gentlemanly (dont know the pc version of this word) and cordial generally, it would be good to see that spirit reflected on this site. Lets not go the way of certain american forums with slander being the norm!

So - ultimate 8a dude take a chill pill! Its so easy to slap down people from the safety of your keyboard but it does f-all to contribute or enlighten! Why not take this golden opportunity to enlighten us lesser mortals with your obviously superior knowledge of the sport. How about some training tips or specialised techniques you know of? I look forward to seeing pics of you cranking Streetfighter in our local press!

PS Yeah, Ive handed out my share of abuse in the past, it appears i-net enlightenment comes slower than climbing! Apologies to those whom Ive offended in the past, will try keep it real this time round. OK gotta pack and head to the crags - gotta love weekends!!!

I got one of those messages. I just ignored it, I am not going to give this person attention, which is clearly what they are looking for, they want to shock and get your reaction. I am not going to give people who are nasty on here, power or influence over me. I will decide how I behave,they are not going to decide for me what my reaction will be.



These people who are insulting and threatening are obiviously very insecure people. They have issues and they most likely need therapy.
