It almost felt like a mini Roc Rally this weekend with the amount of campers at Tranquilitas. Pretoria Boys High's climbing team and a whole bunch of usual suspects were there.

Please go to Rocrope.com and enter early to make things easier for us to organise.

Cool JOTD "6. Which two just finished a joint?" - the one placing the order for 2 x "wetties"....

On a serious note, what's the camping fees and arrangements at Tranquilitas for the Roc Rally?

Camping at Tranquilitas will be the same as last year. The cost, R100 per person for the entire duration. This means that you could come on Wednesday, leave on Sunday and only pay a hundred bucks - bargain.

I am getting quite a few Q's about Thursday & Friday on the Roc Rally 2008. So here is a brief provisional program:

Thursday 25 Sept
Bolting seminar - Facilitated by Alard Hufner
Rock climbing specific Photographic workshop - details to follow.
Slide show, chill out

Friday 26 Sept
Roc Rally handicap section
Deep water solo session by the pool

Saturday 27 Sept
Redpointing Wonderland and/or Waterfall area
Famous award winning "Chicken Dust" for lunch!
Amazingly Cool and Radically Awesome Showdown in the Gorge!
Party back at Tranquilitas

We understand that not everybody can take Thursday/Friday off, so just join in for Saturday in the waterfall gorge area and the evening hangout?

Gustav. Is the provisional program above still the plan?

i.e can I participate in (and win) all of the events (handicap, DWS, rrrrrredpoint, ACRA showdown and PARTY?). I am especially interested in winning the party :afro:

As usual, we make it up as we go. So an entry into the Roc Rally will give you free entry to all the other events at the festival (I think!).

For the party you may have to purchase your own drinks though...

On the DWS note: the planned wall over the pool has already been molded from rocks in the surrounded area and is taking shape as we speak - it is going to be 100% WOW!

I took leave, you should too.

Please note that a revised entry form is up the Roc Rally page where you can indicate in which part of the festival you would like to participate.

Even if you only want to take part in the bolting workshop and/or if you are bold enough to take up the Amazingly Cool and Radically Awesome Showdown Challenge, you need to register.

NOTE: you only register once for all the events you want to take part in!

Um. No.

The link on your home page http://www.rocrope.com/home.html is to "http://www.rocrope.com/Register 2008.doc" - That file doesn't exist.

The link on http://www.rocrope.com/rocrally.html is to "http://www.rocrope.com/Register2008.doc", which *does* exist.

:thumright Just pointing out the problem before you get 10 000 e-mail queries :thumleft:

The Rules and program have been revised, hopefully the dates will make a lot more sense now - http://www.rocrope.com/rocrally.html - any more mistakes/confusion - just shout.

Thanks to all the sponsors that are coming to the party!

Two questions on the Roc Rally rules that came up today:

Quote:
"If climbing trad, does the second score any points for following a route? "
Rule 19. For trad routes, only one climber needs to lead the route. The leader will then belay from the top and the second climber will follow. Helmets are compulsory if you want to attempt routes in a traditional style.

Quote:
How many extra points do you score for an onsight and a flash? In one place it says onsight = +2.5 grades (25 points), flash = +1 grade (10 points), in another it says onsight = +20 points, flash = +20points?

This grade adjustment scoring will only apply to the second day where climbers will redpoint/flash/onsight only 1 route each to count towards scoring. On the second day handicaps do not come into play, so do not confuse day 1 & day 2.

Holy cow! Thats an impressive boulder Mike! Did you lift it from Sun City? Looks awesome and actually not that easy, barefoot V5? Can we get some of these boulders scattered in my complex in Joburg? Nice work. A

I am so psyched to test that boulder out I might just rip it a new......set of jugs. I expect that people will be doing swan dives off that thing when drunk! It mightalso be nice for a little fire on top with sundowners with a lucky lady, is it fire retardent?

Just a reminder, there are only a couple of days left to pre-register for the Roc Rally and get your free T-Shirt...

Okay….two things!!!
1. WoW! I am so impressed by that boulder. Can’t wait to try it out.
2. What would be a safe way to get your shoes dry in super fast time? ( I get the feeling I’ll be falling off quite a bit, hiehie)
Awesome job guys!! Rock Rally is going to be sooo much fun! :thumleft:

Please note that the Slaaihoek road leading up to Wonderland and Tranquilitas from Waterval Boven has been smoothly graded (or down graded from 25 to 13!).

So roll in with your Rolls and bring on the Beamers

1. Please note the rule about not being able to do the same route as last year for your redpoint on Saturday.

2. If you can not take Friday off work (shame on you!), you can still take part in Red Point Saturday, get your free T-Shirt and be in contention for prizes etc. (Register as normal, only fill out info for climber A and pay R175)

3. In order to reduce waste, please bring your own coffee mug along. There will be coffee/tea available - coffee with a smile subsidized by Jet Boil and Sabie Valley Coffee!
