Hey all
This weekend 3rd and 4th October is the formal dinner for the Wits University mountain club 50 years anniversary.
The events are not restricted to ex Witsies, all are welcome!!!
For those of you who are not familiar with the traditions, this is how it works:
The event is held on Saturday night at the Cedarburg campsite. Parking is at Mountain Sanctuary Park. If your plan is just to come for the night and not the climb that day then get there before 6pm as they close the gates to the park for the night. Sign in at reception and tell them that you are there for the formal dinner. There are some small fees payable.
Saturday’s dinner is traditionally a stir fry. Please note we are not providing dinner just telling you what the tradition is. You are doing your own cooking so you can have what you want. In the past people have carried in tables and chairs and gas braais to make life comfortable. Please remember however, that what ever you carry in, you carry out.
The important bit is that you remember your formal wear. I will be sporting a classic three-piece grey suit with a slight bell to the pants - just to keep it real. Formal shoes however are optional as we are children of the earth.
Sunday morning the tradition is to all club in for a communal fruit salad. Please bring a fruit of your choice and donate it to the salad on Sunday morning. Once it is all cut up and mixed in, dip in your bowl and enjoy a good breakfast before heading off for a day of climbing and relaxing at Help-Help pool.
As a precursor to the weekend the MCSA has offered to host a Cheese and Wine for us. The evening will start at 8pm on Wednesday the 30th September. If you have any photos from your days in the Wits University Mountain Club, please e-mail them to me at
mightyorangeroot@gmail.com or bring them on the night. Sadly only digital photo’s can be accommodated.
Hope to see as many of you there as possible.
Chrz Greg
