I am trying to get hold of Bug Sprouse to have some shoes resoled. The number I have 072 639 1819 does not appear to work anymore.

Bugs tells me that he is no longer doing resoles.

He will be giving me a note to post on the forum in this regard, sometime soon.

That is a real shame as his work is top class. Any other suggestions for reliable resoling?

There was a lengthy discussion on resoling previously on this forum- try see if you can dig it up?

Hay if you are in JHB there are some news guys that are starting up with resoling shoes. I was talking to them about it at Strubans. They are doing there big launch at the rock rally so keep a eye out. The guy i was talking to was Yurgen you may just want to give him a call if you can, to find out more about it. I know his son Dylan works at Wonderwall. so you might be able to get a hold of him there

regards
stephen

I don't think they are launching it at the Roc Rally, but it would have been a good idea...

Anyone else that could be suggested? Between Derek, his stepson and I we have together probably about 8 pairs of shoes to be resoled; was planned to be off on Monday but now we have to wait.

Anyone?

Posted on behalf of Rob Sprouse.

"Many apologies’ if I have inconvenienced anyone but I have been out of touch for two months.
I was out of the country for two weeks and then involved in a road accident that took weeks to recover.
At the beginning of July, Rowan Winter bought out our factory equipment, affectively putting me out of business.
Hopefully he will back up any work that we did prior to buying us out. I wasn’t happy about the way things were handled
but if Rowan does a good job at a reasonable price then go for it. Thanks for your shoe business, see you on the crags
".

LOL. I'm still not sure who's who in this resole zoo. Who r the monkey's, who r the quality givers/ do'ers?

I'm in CT and have several shoe's that need work. I'll send off 1 pair as a trial. Duracell was mentioned in CT. I know this issue is now getting old and boring but any further feed back wld be appreciated!

Just to provide the latest update on the Gauteng re-soling scene, we (Nigel, Chris and Jurgen) have indeed bought out Rock Frog re-soles along with all equipment etc. We are busy re-branding the business under the name Vertical World and are undergoing training to ensure that we supply the best product possible. We will be at The Rock Rally to chat to whomever needs more info and will make our new details available in the next 3 weeks as soon as the registrar of companies does some catching up on it's incomplete work.

At the same time we have been busy importing some exciting gear so will have all the details as soon as we can assure good service. Realistically we will be able to accept shoes from 1 October, but are happy to take shoes from the Rock Rally and return them by mid October.

Cheers
Jurgen

Its a pitty about Buggs, he was good.
But i can vouch for Rowen's work, in my opinion and its shared by many climbers, Rowen is the best climbing shoe resoler in South Africa, his work is world class.
I had a pair of kendos (bought in '94) resoled twice with him (not an easy task) and they were perfect both times, i would still be wearing them today if they were not stolen.
Rowen is that guy who made that green mantra shoes sold a few years back.
If i am not mistaken he uses 5-10 rubber (the best in many opinions).
when my new bandits run thin i will send them his way, evolv comfort + 5-10 rubber = fantastic :P

Quick question: are any resolers operating at the moment? (Based on past experience, Rocksole doesn't count)

I've texted Rowan and received no response; Googling "Vertical World" doesn't return any relevant information either ...

Nigel and Chris Run the company you can get ahold of them on info@rockclimbing.co.za or . I know that Nigel climbs most thursday at wonderwall so if you want to talk to him in person you can most likey meet him there hope this helps.

I am not sure if they want there cell number out on a open fourm but i will SMS them this tread and they can post it if they want to. That way if you have any question they can answer it for themselves. Enstead of me talking for them :thumleft:

Guys, this is a copy of my reply on the "resoling and beyond" topic:

I've just got my shoes back from Rowan Winters - and they are awesome!
His resoling is world class. I would post my shoes to him no matter where I was in the country. Good workmanship really counts.
I had to post them from CPT up to Durbs, but postage is just R20 each way.
After the resole the shoes are good as new. In fact probably better (stickier rubber)
I know there are some other good options, but my shoes will all eventually find there way to Rowan.
You can get him at 0832423838,RocSport

Hello Mullet

I had my shoes resoled about 4 month ago by "Vertical World Resoles". I am still very happy with them. I climb about once a week in them, manly outdoors and the rubber is still going strong. These Photos were taken today.

Thanks gripit! That looks like a great resole job. I also had one of my pairs resoled by Vertical World a few months ago (about 6 months I think) and I was really impressed with the job done. Best resole I've seen in SA yet. That is why I was curious to draw some visual comparisons with Rowan Winters' work.
