Howzit, I'm looking for a pair of shoes for around R1400. What would be the best option. Also what are La- Sportiva Speedsters like :?:

I would recommend Edelrid shoes. They are as good as la sportivas, if not better (they use the same rubber), and they are cheaper. check out the Hurricane at around R1200 and the Raven at R1600 on Mountain mail order. obviously it all depends on your foot shape though

Not exactly sure of price but they're available through Vertical World in JHB

advice is good but you need to go fit & find the best shoe for you. at R1400 you can get almost anything except the highest end la sportivas.

my best shoe for the price will be 5.10 anazasi verde (lace up) - love 'em.

whatever you do, don't buy the Speedsters. They are the worst possible shoe you could buy if you intend to stand on small holds.

I'd definitely recommend Edelrid Hurricanes. They are modelled on the Muiras and designed by the same guy, they cost less and use the same technology. Total winners.

Go fit shoes, where ever you are. Make sure you don't try to guess which ones to buy...

That would be Durban, which is why he doesn't have the option of trying on <edit> very many </edit> shoes for the best fit..

For R1500 you can buy any La Sportiva Climbing shoe, currently the most expensive is the Testarossa which has a recommended retail price of R1495.00.

Try on lots of shoes and see what fits you best, no one can tell you what is the best shoe, as no one has your feet.

Good Luck!! and I hope you crank your hardest in whatever shoes you choose. :thumright

The problem is, (that scott already mentioned) that frikkie and other durban climbers dont have the luxury of trying many different shoes, mainly because we have no retail store in kzn that stocks any rock climbing gear/shoes...thus we mainly have to go by guess...and hope that we chose well

therefore this goes out to all you climbing retail stores over south africa...buy a store in kzn and fill it with climbing gear and you probably will make some bucks :thumright
