I'm from durbs, new to the whole slackline thing. I have a 5.5m piece of webbing that i've been tying between trees and stuff without rigging any gear and its been pretty cool. But now i'm keen to build myself a line, and i've been doing research and have everything i need except the actual line (webbing).

Where is the cheapest/best place to get webbing from? shopped around online but they only sell 100m rolls..

I am in Pmb and am also looking for webbing for a slack-line at my gym. I have also only been able to find 100m rolls... what price did you get? Perhaps it would work out cheaper than buying a kit if we bought a roll between us, especially if we could find a third person that wants? Let me know if you're keen.

There is a big difference between an ideal climbing webbing vs a slackline webbing, if you are buying 100m/50m/33m it makes sense to know what you are getting yourself into. Then can you tension a 50m line adequately? I see both of you are in KZN and I am going to the Rory this weekend, try the lines I am bringing along and understand the differences in the webbings. I will try bring 4 webbings: the Slackline SA Standard webbing, the Wakeline (that will be the slackline comp prize, and stage), my old 60m highline and hopefully one other. Then with luck someone else will bring their made up line (a Beal 26mm perhaps?) and we can compare the differences. If there is space I would like to rig a longer line for people to try, 40m or so. This way you can see why I chose the webbing I did for that length, and what I would pick next time and why.

A lot more goes into a good slackline then I think people realize. I can make custom length lines or change a standard kit to suite ones needs, but this takes time

cool! thanks Warren. I'm just wanting to set up two short (about 6m) slack-lines at my gym, but struggling to find webbing in short lengths... don't really want to buy in kit form. If i did get a long roll, I'm sure I can sell it off at cost to friends wanting to set up their own. Would love to get some advice from you, I'll find you at the Rory.

Josh dude, really check the ad at the top of the page. They sell 26mm tubular webbing, you can order online, they post it to you, price isn't bad either. They cut the length you want, or sell you a roll.

I have been using the pulley method that you can see on the internet for a few months now and would like to buy a ratchet. Looking for a pretty heavy duty one that can really tension a line. Anyone know a place in Cape town specifically southern suburbs that sells ratchets like a hard ware store?

Speak to Warren G and ask him where he sources his from, he builds lines and is based in CT.

I bought my ratchets (rated at 5000 kg) from Cape Twines & Packaging at 177 Albert Road, Woodstock. I am pretty sure they have the best prices around. I use webbing from them as well, which you can buy any length of per meter. It is not tubular webbing, so may not be ideal (I am no expert in this), but its worked perfectly for me so far. No breakages yet. It is rated at 4000 kg and is 50mm wide. I also simply tie bowlines in it for the anchors (which are easy to untie after being loaded, and have proved to be completely secure) made from 3 meter lengths of the same webbing. And I use 16mm shackles which you can get at any hardware store. Very economical and very easy system to set up. Love walking it.

I have a 25mm tubular line and after trying Warrens 25mm standard (SlacklineSA) i notice mine just has alot more bounce in it. which is pretty cool if you wanna do bouncy type tricks.

I think i want to try a 36mm line next, i dont like the width of the 50mm, it just feels a bit wide but i want to get a bit thicker than a 25mm for some jump tricks, think this might work? I should have it within the next few months, just going for a 10m line as i dont plan to walk much on it.

Also wondering: Warren, how much does the wakeline go for? Incase i decide to save myself effort

To answer the question on the Wakeline price, i haven't quite settled on a length yet and so this effects the price, but it would be somewhere between R750 and R900 i would think.

Drifters is keen on stocking a 15m Wakeline to complement their current 15m standard line stock, with this direction most likely the Wakeline 15m will become the standard length. With trick/jump lines you don't want them too long because it effects the performance of the line. Should the 15m line come into effect the price would be between R800-R850 I hope.

What did everyone think of the Rory slackline session? I had a bucket of fun sparing with you folks!
