Technically I dont think there is a diffrence... but the Grillon is designed for a work positioning device on the industrial scene. The Grigri however was made for belaying in a climbing scene.

both is about the same price, you will be safe on both of them and you might as well get the new grigri 2 for even less than the grillion at half the size.

As i understand it the grillion, does not have a return spring, this means that it will lok up with little effort and not return to free flo very easily.

Great for work positioning, terrible for belaying.

if it was me i'd get the gri gri as it was designed for the task.

A grillon is used for tree climbing predominantly as well as other industrial applications. The grillon is a closed system, multipurpose device that is OSHA approved. The grillon uses the exact same grigri that you would find in regular climbing applications. Therefore to answer your question, there is no difference between the devices only the way in which they are 'accessorized'.
