Hi, I would like to know whether one can still climb at Eagle Mountain now that it has changed owners.

We were there 9-12 September with Exploratio(Tuks climbing club), was fantastic climbing. This was already after the new ownership, so I guess it would be open to climb.

Hi all.

I was also there with Explo and I met with the new owner.
Unfortunately, I can't remember his name, but he is a decent and friendly guy. If they stay the owners, we'll be climbing there for a long time.

Wim is still the manager. He was just in the States for a while. He could still be there for all I know. You can call Wim on 0586230235. Otherwise, contact the owner on his mobile at 0836682472.

I am busy getting the Bouldering route guide ready for the wiki. Just had a rough couple of weeks. I will upload it soon. Otherwise PM me if you want the topos and list of problems from the 2008 NBL Finals so I can email it to you.

Enjoy the climbing

@all,

Here is the official response from the new owners at Eagle Mountain. This is very good news and on behalf of all SA climbers I would like to thank Amanda and Petrus Weyers for continuing to support climbing in SA and affording us the privilege of visiting their beautiful farm from time to time

From Amanda:

"Mount Everest is still open for business. Rock climbers are very welcome. The campsite is available at
R 70 per person per night as well as chalets which can accommodate from 3 to 10 ranging from R 600 per night for the smaller ones, up to R 1000 for the bigger ones. We do not have our new website or email yet, but for the interim you can contact us at amanda@internet-sa.co.za. My nr is 079 886 3101 or 083 668 2472 or 083 991 7717

Best regards
Amanda and Petrus"

Thanks for doing that Colin and yes, that is fantastic news indeed.
My family loves the chalets...

Just a quick update.
Was there with my family this weekend in the chalet above Serengeti slab.
New owner and manager of the resort, Amanda 083 668 2472, is very enthusiastic and
efficient. Name will probably revert to Everest...
Perfect!

Hi

Just a quick question: how's the general condition of the bolts & anchors? I heard from a friend that it appears rusted (not sure which routes he was on), just curious about whether perhaps he was just unlucky or perhaps there really is a problem?

Has anyone been on these routes recently and if so how does the bolts look?
Rhino On The City Hall Steps
Men Behaving Badly
Big Sky

Thanks in advance

Hey Emile,

I've done all three if those in the last year.

Rhino - I remember the bolts did not alarm me. Some chains are rusted but if I recall correctly, they are thick-ass chains.

Men behaving badly - bolts looked fine

Big Sky - one of the newer multi pitches, bolts are good. You need an extra rope to get down from this one, or be prepared to do a little grade 12 down scramble to get down off the last pitch, or abb off 2 bolts leaving mallions.

Hi Emile,
Just to confirm what Pierre said. Climbed "Rhino..." in December - No problems with anchors.
And Men Behaving Badly the year before - Also all seemed fine, just take care of getting a rope jam on one of the flakes when pulling the rope through after abseiling.
