Thanks to
CityROCK, I got to watch a full preview of the 2011 Reel Rock Film Tour.
This Reel keeps getting better and better every year. This year, I particularly enjoyed the more personal features – you get a nice insight into the personalities of the athletes as well as seeing their hair-raising stunts (which would make any mother cringe).
It kicks off with ‘
Ice Revolution’. This is ice climbing at its most extreme - watch carefully for the guy who brings down a stalactite the size of a tour bus!

Cold’ is a story about 3 guys heading up an 8000 meter peak in the middle of winter. This film is a good reminder of why you don’t want to go climb BIG mountains in winter. Needless to say chilling stuff!

Project DAWN WALL’ is about Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson pushing the limits on El Cap. The film has some great humour and spares you no details of what it is like to be on the wall with them. Interestingly, they climbed mostly in during the cool night and lay about on their portaledge surfing the web via an iPhone during the day.

Race for the Nose’ gives a comical account of the history of the Yosemite Nose Speed Record.

Origins’ with Obe & Ashima is a sweet film about a nine year old girl intuitively breaking new ground with her ‘climbing IQ’.
‘
Sketchy Andy’ gives quite a hectic view into the life of Andy Lewis ‘and his obsession with pushing the limits of Slacklining. As some points you feel like you’re watching a snuff movie! None the less, a great film that wraps up the 2011 Reel Rock Tour.
