I am looking in purchasing a good pair of shoes for horseback riding and would like to make them work as hiking shoes as well. I understand the basic need for a good riding shoe, but is there a shoe/ boot that will work for both? is this shoe okay?

I tossed all my shoes out only VFF now. :-)

IMHO, I'd say it all depends on how hardcore/broke you are. I've hiked in the most horrendous boots from old army boots to canvas security guard boots, and you just need to look at some of the SA climbing legends footwear choices to know that no boot is to sturdy or too heavy to hike in.

That being said, I would recommend getting footwear designed for hiking, especially the type of hiking you are planning to do, those boots you linked might suffice for winter berg hiking but even then I think you might find them, not all that suitable.
