How about an explanation of all the climbing terminology.
ie…..

On sight Flash, Pink point

Glassy, Snorkey

Desperate and gripped.

Add to the list, give some meaning, enlighten us heathens.

Everyone has the right to opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

Its not essential to have placed the draws to claim an onsight. The same goes for a redpoint. Of course placing the draws makes the climb more difficult and would be a purer form of ascent, but the distinction is not generally noted anymore. This has evolved for numerous reasons (too many to bother regurgitating them all here). Basically people have realised its pointless and pedantic to argue over such finer points of style, what matters is getting up the route without falling. Thus the term pinkpoint has fallen away.

So we are left with a simpler set of defintitions these days:
You get the route 1st try with no prior knowledge of beta = onsight
You get the route 1st try with beta = flash
You get the route after practising the moves = redpoint

Its worth noting that onsight is never applied to boulder problems as it is usually possible to inspect all of the holds closely from the ground. For more detailed info on the ins and outs (and more confusion! :D ) check out the practice and ethics article on the 8aNu site.
