who in RSA is attempting lines approaching this length?! Would love to session with you as you have a longer piece of webbing than me. Funny how rigging goes more and more industrial the longer the lines become? also how only sponsored slackers get webbing long enough.

@Warren, I would think that the reason only sponsored guys have the resources is due to the fact that the webbing that can be used for lines that long, something like spider silk is R63 a meter! and most people don't have the money to fork out for that! I mean when you have the need for high performance webbing like that you would be walking some serious distance. So scenario, You want to walk a 250m line, you need the webbing (R15750) plus all your heavy duty gear like Spansets, rigging plates, ropes, pulleys, a Rig, Alpine lockers, etc. So you are looking at some serious money there! But I mean If I had a sponsor *cough*hint*hint* I would be walking those sorts of lines every day!

Oh right, Spider Silk as in the brand of webbing, I thought you meant the actual fibre used.

Strong stuff this - it's made from Vectran, 67kn breaking strength for the 25mm wide webbing. Very impressive

$3.05 / foot = +/- $10 / meter. Ouch

Bit of useless piece of info: did you know man can't make spider's silk because the spider mechanically changes it from a liquid to a solid by moving the molacules into the correct order? I think that is an obscenely brilliant display of nature. Man can make the liquid, but until Nano tech catches up with nature we must sit and marvel. Spider silk is stronger than steel, and the first lab to make rope would completely revolutionize sailing, climbing etc if the price can be reasonable, but when you consider the "labour" involved in its manufacture, once the invention has been created it will be a substance only for certain applications that can justify the price tag. imagin 7mm single ropes that will outl last a 10.5mm

I'm really keen to get on a high line, but don't have the gear. The max line I have been able to put up is about 30m by combining my own and a friends lines, just wanted to know if any one is looking for someone to help haul gear up the mountain etc, REALLY keen to try one. I'm comfortable on a 30m and haven't had the opportunity to go longer.
