Curiousity killed the cat.... However I cannot help myself.
The MCSA calls themselves the representatives of climbers in South Africa.
- Are you a member of the MCSA?
- Are you a member of any kind of climbing club?
or are you gunning the mountains / your personal indoor gym in private with your clostest buddies only?

Please complete the poll (hope it works well). Appreciate it if only residents & citizens of SA partake in the poll.

You are welcome to make whatever assumptions you wish, and comment on this post in the craziest way possible. Trolls also welcome, just fill in the poll!
:afro:

Then you'd better hope people bother to go back and edit their votes. This is vaguely interesting, but the only useful information we can determine is the minumum number of individuals who voted (that will be equal to the largest of the numbers in the square brackets).

Perhaps it's worth defining the question a bit more clearly? Before too many votes roll in

Hey Scott,
I deliberately did not set it up 100% accurate (what fun would that be?), however we can make more deductions than simply the number of people who voted.

I think the question is simple enough: "I am a member of..."
the user then choose the option/s that apply to him/her/it
I agree that we have some members with limited reading skills, as becomes evident quite often on the forums, but I think most will understand that it is not quite possible to have a formal, and informal association, but who knows, maybe someone can prove me wrong?

Whichever way, some time from now we will have some interesting statistics.

Numbers are my secret fetish, but shhhhh, dont tell anyone :jocolor:

Hey, I'm part of a University Club on campus to have acess to a climbing wall and the boulder cave but most of my outdoor climbing is done with an informal group of non affiliated climbers.

@Franz
This graphic shows the votes at the time of my writing. The only thing
we know for sure is that a minimum of 15 people voted and believe that
they're MCSA members. We have no way to determine whether 14 out of
those 15 also voted as part of the informal climbing community, or was
it 5? NO, 3 sir!!!

It's also impossible to tell if all 4 members of the scorn committee
are MCSA members (even though we might believe that is highly likely).

At the end of it all we have some pretty numbers to tickle your
fetish, but very little in the way of "interesting statistics".

I hope you see what I'm getting at and don't take this as a personal
attack (Unlike the rest of you, I'm far too skinny to box on the
Internet..)

Is the poll closed? I can't figure out how to vote.

Also - I feel I should be able to vote for several options. I am a member of the UCT-MSC but only so I can use the boulder wall and use reciprocity with MCSA - I do very few outings with them. I am a member of CityROCK and climb there but only to get my crank on when time or climate prevent outdoor climbing, The majority of my climbing is highly informal - organised with a core group of friends who enjoy heading out together. Which box should I be checking?

I think a cool poll would be how many hours per annum to you spend:

a) bouldering on plastic
b) bouldering on rock
c) climbing toprope in a gym
d) climbing lead in a gym
e) lead climbing outdoors
f) trad climbing
g) expedition climbing and big walling
h) reading climbza

I'm really intrigued to know where the balance lies for various people:

Mine at the moment is: 30:15:100:75:200:0:0:500

Thus my climbing to time on this site ratio is 21:25. I'll be happy if I can move the ratio to 1:1. Additionally If I count reading mountaineering books and other websites the ratio is far far worse.

Never mind - I figured out how to vote. And I voted for three of the options.

I love the climbing community.

Not: glad to hear you figured it out!
Scott: May I suggest you create an alternative poll, then we can compare numbers? (ps: you dont need to be a heavyweight to box here, as suggested in the original post, you are free to any and all your opinions.)

Please take the voting serious, and the posts with a dash of salt and lemon. Remember to swallow the tequila (or egg nog) first.

Interesting to see where this is going. I do however get the feeling that people are shy to vote???? Please, nobody can see your vote except yourself and [i]maybe[i] Big Brother (justin).

One deduction I can make from the statistics, (assuming all who logged on / visited climbza voted):
From 15h00 yeasterday afternoon until now:
- 30 MCSA members, and
- 13 climbing gym members
visited climbza....
Can this be true???

Please vote. Dont be shy.

Remember: Big brother is watching you :cyclops:
hehe

Hi Guys,

Franz, great post. FYI, I can't see any details on the voting.

Scott, we are hunting for a poll plug-in, if you send me questions/answers we can put them up.

It is with great sadness, but I have no choice but to announce that the scorn committee is currently the worst represented climbing group in the country

It seems at this point the climbing community is best represented by the informal climbing community, and worst represented by the scorn committee. Is this true?
