Agreed! I am just bleak I work for Ram: The R14k trad rack raffle sounds worth it. R100 for a 1% chance. Maybe I can ask a digs mate to enter for me...

So here’s the deal.

Us Tired And Wanked Out Climbers aka TATWOCians challenge the WANNABE’s to a little competition at the Tradathon on the 17th March.
The rules are simple.

You are a WANNEBE if you are getting to your physical peak and a TAWOCian if you are past it.

Bruce Lee said Prime of Life is at age 32

Medical science reckons at age 34 we start losing our bone density and grey matter.

So for purpose of this challenge, if you are under age 34 you are a WANNEBE and if you are over 34 you are a TAWOCian.

The challenge will start at 06h00 on the morning of the 17th and you have to be off the rock by 19h00 so we can all go to the spit braai.

Some rules: (which will be refined and changed at will).

No soloing allowed. You have to climb in roped pairs and safely. No undue run-outs are allowed to kinda save time: max 4m.

All scores of pitches climbed will be added up and the total score of each group wins

The losers buy the winners 2 drinks each at the spit braai.

A trophy will be awarded to the winners and a losers award to the losers. (you gotta be dreaming if you think I am gonna tell you what it is).

You have to climb with someone in your TATWOC or WANNABE group. If you don’t, you have to buy everyone participating in the challenge a drink at the party but you can still score each in his her own category.

If you lead the pitch clean you get the grade score. Following is minus 2 grades.

If you fall you don’t lose points but you have to climb from the runner below the one you weighted.

If you sag or say “take” on lead or TR you lose 2 points. If you fall off on TR you have to lower 3m at least.

An "Onsight" scores an extra 2 points

If you aid a move you lose 2 points.

You may not do more than two routes without coming to the Tea Cave and making Tea.

This will all be an honesty thing.

There will be a dress code: If you got it, flaunt it, ripped abs, biceps and the like.

If not, then climb in nice colours. I shall be arranging lank photography

The best and worst dressed score 5 points upfront to be voted by all.

Anyone climbing the whole day in a Tux with bow tie scores 100 points upfront.

Climbing in double boots, wellingtons or any other unsuitable footwear scores 100 points upfront.

150 POINTS IF YOU CLIMB IN BONA FIDE FLIPPERS

Anyone climbing the whole day entirely sans cams scores 150 points.

There will be 100 points awarded to the pair that entertains the most.

Anyone who comes up with a good suggestion and that I implement on the day scores 10 points upfront. I will be the sole judge though.

Squeaks is in charge of rounding up the WANNABE’s.

Please state your partner on this forum as you join up.

I shall distribute a score sheet with the rules closer to the time.

Any new suggestions for rules must be posted here.

oh my gosh i'm a TATWOCian! :pirat:

it may be that our grey matter is on the declining side, but our ability to utilise it is increasing exponentially........ and i have a winning feeling

bring it on!

Are WANNABE's allowed to team up with TATWOCians?

Hector, you got the wrong end of the stick, dude. You want higher grades to score more points....

There is a youngster Guy Patterson Jones that should burn up a lot of routes.....

Arno you can team up but you score individually. Not ideal but OK.

As far as the age of wannabes, old wankers etc goes, here's an interesting statistical fact:
In marathon running, an athlete from the age of 19 will improve his times every year untill age 27, from there things start to go backward again. However what is amazing is that only at age 64 will that same runner have regressed to the point he was at when he was 19.

This is from research done at the New York city marathon and from the book 'Born To Run' by Christopher McDougall, an absolute must read for all climbers, even if you don't run.

I might have done some of my hardest bouldery tricks when I was younger in my twenties and thirties but since age 50 I have done most of my harder climbing.

How did the event go??
And more importantly... who won the trad rack (and what is their physical address)?

Feedback would be great!

Tradathon 2012 ROCKED

Thanks to the Simon, and his entire team, for arranging such a needed and excellent event. Never before have I epxperienced such a feeling of learning/teaching, and camaraderie on the mountain. THANKS, hats off to you, and see if we can make it a yearly thing.

I second that! I've had lots of feedback from people who did the training and everyone is stoked. Great day on the hill :thumleft: Just sitting in the tea cave and listening to the banter was great (espescially the ones SNORT was involved in  ) Such a nice vibe. Hats off to Willem and Douw for tearing that place up! The spitbraai was amazing!!

Don't know who won the raffle (but he wasn't there to collect his prize on the night). I heard the ledge was buzzing with climbers everywhere. Willem and Douw did six routes on the day!! Everyone said they had fun, the after party was great (nice venue) and next years Tradathon will take place in Monteseel in July.

@ Justin

You really missed out, it was truly something else, I wonder if there have ever been such a large group of climbers climbing simultaneously on the mountain at any one time, might be some kind of record.

If any of you took some nice pics, please post it.
