My car was parked on Boyes Drive directly below the stairs up to Echo Valley on Sunday afternoon.

Although nothing to steal was visible, my window was smashed, and gear worth a nauseatingly large amount of money stolen from my boot.

Consider parking elsewhere.

Unfortunately you have to treat this like any other animal attack. If you are parked in a secluded mountainous area, DON"T FEED THE BABOONS. Leave that expensive gear at home. Hard luck though.

I wonder about the relative risk of losing gear to theft at home versus hidden in the boot of my car, as neither is safe. I guess home is safer, but I do consciously avoid putting all eggs in one basket.

As an uninteresting aside: who would have guessed that replacing the small side window (so graciously selected by my visitor) costs more than three times what the main wind-down would have cost?

a few years ago I had someone break into my car through a back corner window too. I bought the new glass and did it myself, and have subsequently done friends cars too. I wouldn't to that with larger pieces like windshields, but it might be worth your while trying, if it is one of those little triangle jobs. what car is it?

Justin, I didn't submit a formal police report as would have been best. I informed the Muizenberg police by phone.

To all partakers of echo valley's fine boulders:

You can park in the street below the usual parking next to the houses and walk up the stairs. A good warm-up for the steep walk anyway. The locals also park extra cars in this street so this must be better - at least there's eyes on the vehicles which you don't have on boyes drive.
