To all the climbers who attended this year's Montagu Rock Rally, please can you give us some feedback on the rally so that we can look at making this event bigger and better each year.

Please can you let us know what you loved about the rally, what you think needs more work, where we could improve and what might be a great addition?

Your thoughts are greatly valued :)

Also, a pair of white Nike shoes were found at Legoland. Please let me know if you know who's they are and I will make sure to return them.

Thanks so much again for attending and for your continued support.

Thanks Delaney and the other organisers it was a really fun event.

As for improvements for next year.

1. Keep a list of people who ordered and paid for food and tick off as they collect. ( Going hungry was a big let down )

2. keep it to just your best 10 routes for the day and not as many as you can climb.

3. Having a bar facility would definately add to the party.

Otherwise it was great. See everyone there next year

Many thanks to Delaney for organising an awesome rock rally!

Some suggestions for next year to improve an already-excellent event:

1. Consider hiring 2011's caterers. This year's food was mediocre whereas last year's was exceptional.

2. The ten route limit is a good idea. Other climbers on the day seemed to think so too. Also this has worked well in previous years.

3. How about a (slightly) later finish? Just when climbing conditions are getting really good, it is time to rush back. End at 6:30pm? 7pm?

Great idea about the bar and the later finish. Tried to get hold of last year's caterers but they never returned my emails even though they were receiving mine :-(

10 routes only ... I had some people saying they liked the as-many-as-you-can but let's see what the majority feedback is ;-)

According to count, 42 people paid for meals and I had arranged for 46 meals. It turns out that it may have been first comers overloading plates. I will definitely have meal tickets next year, vegetarian options and people to dish up.

Thanks again and please keep on coming with the suggestions. This will all really help.

Hi Delaney

Maybe you should set up poll so that people can vote whether they liked the 10 route or as many routes as possible format.
I seem to remember seeing this sort of thing done before

otherwise Thanks for organising, great event

Hi Delaney

The rally was a great success. Thanks for organising!

My two cents for consideration:
  • I agree with the above, later finish and what about an earlier start as well.
  • I also prefer the option of only your 10 best routes counting.
  • What about having the Saturday as a semi final for the pro's and then have a climb off on the Sunday morning so we all can go and watch them climb. This then could also be used as extra exposure for sponsors.

The climb off sounds great! What does everyone think about that? And perhaps having the rally over a long weekend so that the sunday is still a rest day? Thoughts?

Thanks Delaney - you did an awesome job. - a few comments:
- I definitely think there needs to be more control over the catering thing (i.e. caterers dishing up only to those people who have tickets for it). There are too many skanky climbers out there who will happily skank someone else out of their meal.
- Also with the T-shirts, a list of names and you hand people who registered early the size of T-shirt they ordered. (I'm just upset coz I didn't get mine).
- I think the climb-off is a great idea.
- I don't think the rock rally should be over a long weekend - I think alot of people want to go further afield on long weekends.

Thanks Delaney for all the effort-Well done!
My thoughts:
-Ticket system for food and better quality food.
- As many routes as you like.
-Cash bar (beers) with cool drinks for the non drinkers.
-Big fire in the pit for ambiance.
-Sunday climb off is a great idea.
- Lastly, Wet T-shirt competition ???
:-)

I don't think its reasonable to have the event start earlier and end later if some climbers ticked 16 routes in the given time. If you want to crank harder maybe go there for a few weekends before and refresh yourself with the beta on the routes.

would love to know why this year was so successful

Here here on 10 route limit and climb off!!
otherwise really cool event, thank you very much!
I suppose the handy capping always sucks for those on the non-receiving end, but hey, that's the way the compo is run.
KEEN for next year :thumleft:

Hi Andrew, we can keep the open category in which has no handicaps at all and you can make sure you tick Open off on the scoresheet next year. Pure points only then.

Keith, the climb-off would be taking the winners from the previous day and have them send their hardest grade or one particular route and see who sends the route first (or fastest). If we do decide to have a climb-off, we can decide how we'd like to run it as there are other options to a climb-off.
