I came across this pic of a friend in Reunion today and it looks like there is plenty of big wall potential there. Anyone climbed here before?

So I spoke to a friend who did a PhD on the geography of Reunion.

He is unsure of exactly the wall on the photo, but he had this to say:

"Ja dit kan op paar plekke wees, maar ek vermoed dis in 'n plek wat hulle noem Cirque de Mafate. Dis notoriously moeilik om daar te kom (daar is geen paaie nie - mens moet helikopter of hike...). Die rots is bros en vulkanies - ek sou nie daar klim nie!"

The Western Cliff of Cirque de Mafate is about 10km South-West from Grand Ilet.
Google Earth it...

Perhaps we can ask him again if we know more about the exact location.

Looks a bit salady

Here is what the guy in the pic had to say. "It's a dormant volcanic crater on Ile de la Reunion. I'm standing on the Col des Boeufs pass between Cirque de Salazie and Cirque de Mafate. The wall in the distance is the western crater wall of Mafate cirque. The broken ground in the middle distance is the floor of the cirque." Thanks Alan
