Came across this - and haven't seen it advertised anywhere:

http://www.adventurefestival.co.za/even ... ock-rally/

Black Diamond Rock Rally
Format: Black Diamond Rock Rally
Date: Saturday 18th August 2012
Time: 09h00am - 16h00pm
Start: Festival Hub, Palmiet Caravan Park
Finish: Festival Hub
Cost: R50
Entries: Download the entry form on the opposite page.

The Gravity Festival started 10 years ago as a gathering of white water enthusiasts and has gradually grown into a multi-discipline festival of adventure sports……….So this is your opportunity – to gather with a bunch of other adventurers to play and party together for the weekend in one of South Africa’s little adventure gems.

What ?
A gathering of all levels and ages of climbers to enjoy the best that Kleinmond has to offer - Sport, Trad. or Bouldering - followed by a Party of note on the banks of the Palmiet estuary. Over 40 routes and 20 boulder problems in under 7 hours making this Rally great practice for first time rally entrance, and ideal training for Boven Rally little over a month later. Scoring will be handicapped by ability, but more details to follow.

Hi Folks

This is my little project, however when it came time to announce to everyone the rally I was away for work, and so didn't write the document above. I have learnt from previous rallies: listened to the complaints from strong competitors and whinges from the Admin side of the events at making handicap systems work. instead i want to implement the following:

There will effectively be two competitions: Under 22 and Open. A team can climb as many routes as they can handle in the 7 hours, with the open category having no restrictions, but the scoring will be designed to encourage routes harder than 22. The Under 22 competitors will not score off any route over 22. there is no handicap system, and your previous climbing experience in no way effects which category you are in- it is your choice. For Example: If you can flash 24 you can choose to climb only under 22 with the knowledge that you should be able to climb more, but will most likely be competing with more teams. All other minor competitions in the event will continue- spot prizes etc.

I look forward to hearing your comments and concerns below.

Warren

Hi Folks!

I have just finished off the scoring for the Rally and posted it on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/events/409350612455198/) the only thing i haven't quite settled on is a fair trad lead versus sport lead conversion, but it will be a simple multiplier.

I have highlighted the grades that apply to both sectors of the competition, and the grading for the higher grades starts there so as to encourage the under 23 comp to do 22s and 6C+'s

Have fun!

Please go to the Gravity site above and enter! If you have the time to read this you have the chance now to make your lives easier later!

Where is that thread regarding laziness being cool?...

Hey Folks! Please don't forget pens, pencils, route guides etc. if it is in the guide its in the Rally!

Incidently I will print some boulder guides from Cutloose Bouldering, however I won't print one for everyone, simply because I don't think everyone will boulder. If you are out to prove me wrong please bring a guide.

A trad guide/write up is proving difficult to find, but if anyone has one, please share!!

PS: have fun!

I just posted a bunch of pics from the 2012 Black Diamond Rock Rally Article.

The Black Diamond Rock Rally was a great success with about 30 climbers having a great time at Kleinmond Crag. The weather was perfect and if you weren’t there you certainly missed out!

The French Maids were by far the best dressed! Best Winger of the day went to Alan Hills when the the crux bolt on ‘Percolator’ failed resulting in his belayer getting a burn to the hand (well done for holding on!!) and Alan landing only a few feet above the ground!
Otherwise it was a lekker day at the crag and great to see so many new faces :)
