Alex Honnold is visiting Cape Town, and will be making a presentation at the MCSA Cape Town on Friday the 31st of August.

I'm sure he needs little introduction after his exploits that were featured in the ReelRock tour and BANFF film festivals recently.
He has free-soloed bigwall testpieces including Half-Dome in Yosemite, the Yosemite 'triple crown', the Rostrum, Astroman, the Pheonix among many others.
He and Hans Florine currently hold the speed records for the Nose of El Capitan.
He even managed to overtake Hector, Gosia and Clinton on the Rostrum while we were over there last year.

8pm for 8:30pm

Alex appears courtesy of Black Diamond Equipment

Bouldering wall will be open beforehand.

This replaces the normal event on the first Tuesday of every month - there will be no event on Tues the 4th of September.

Do you need to be a MCSA member to attend? I'd love to go but I'm not a member of MCSA!

come as a visitor, you will then appreciate what the MCSA is all about and will likely join anyway!

A reminder of the social and show this Friday.

8:00pm for 8:30pm
Come and have a drink (or/and) climb on the climbing wall beforehand.

NB There is no first-Tuesday social next week - THIS IS IT! :-)

Thanks again to Black Diamond Equipment for supporting Alex and for hosting him at the club tomorrow.

Sweet...where is the climbing wall...? At the MCSA clubhouse in Hatfield(?) street?

Cheers,
Cuan

That is correct, upstairs at the clubhouse - quite a nice one too.

Thanks Justin :)

Any idea what time anyone may start arriving. May just head around to City Rock after work then get some chow after they close and then head straight to the MCSA.

The climbing wall is open EVERY Tuesday (not just before the first-Tuesday-of-the-month events.) From 6pm

It of course is open before the Friday events too - although probably more from 7:30pm

Enjoy!

(Incidentally the same goes for the library, which contains beta and maps and historic write-ups for just about every route in the world... And a whole collection of climbing videos...)

Wow. What a good talk. He seemed a bit flustered with the big turn out,but really, when are we going to have a chance to see AH in the flesh again. Thanks to Simon, MCSA, Black Diamond, and everyone else who had a hand in this great feat. It was awesome.

After the talk Alex Honnold left me with a lasting impression of his humour, humility and honesty. His comments relating to his techniques of "headspace management" were "gold" to a newbie such as myself.

Well done and thanks to all who made the talk possible.

Thanks MCSA. What a great talk by a climbing legend! Thanks for opening up to non-members and the climbing community as a whole!
