First of all, I am completely for having a No Climbing area at the New Cableway Crags spot to let the birds be. And I can't wait to get out there and check out the new area.
A few weekends ago, we were sitting at Tonquani Upper campsite watching the new black eagle family (chick and all) populate the opposing face with the adult swooping and diving all over the place. It was an amazing experience. The next morning we woke up with the chick chirping away.
However, something is a bit fishy. This is a description in the new
topo document of Cableway Crags:sQuote:
Eagle update from: Walter Neser (14 October 2010): "We are in the final stages of securing funding to release a black eagle chick back into the area next winter. We will also do a few repairs to the fallen nest to help encourage the return of the birds to the area, and avoid it falling again. This work will be done in the non-breeding season to limit disturbance. We would appreciate any sightings of Black eagles in the area, and if at all possible, we would like to get hold of the person who reported the electrocution of the adult, as we have a relationship with Eskom, and can have then do some mitigation to the structures in question, provided we have the needed details, of when where etc. Any help on these matters would be appreciated.
The exact same description is given on the Bronkies Wiki. Clearly this is about the Bronkies nest that fell off. Why was this used in the Cableway Crags RD?
I apologise if this seems disrespectful and ungrateful to Pierre Carter and Co for the effort they put in. But why use that in the Cableway Crags RD?
