I'm looking to get my hands on some Trango Big Bro's; the tubular type of pro that will give me some peace of mind in my love / hate relationship with off-widths.
Anyone know who imports Trango into SA?
Or anyone with some that wants to flog it?

We used to import Trango. Sold a Bigbro about once a year. We don't go to the SEXPO any more so we closed down our Sex Toys section. If you reeeeaallly want to have a relationship with one we can order one for you....

BD Camelot # 6? I suspect that is the largest pro available on the RSA market- unless someone knows something I don't? # 4 ranges from 114mm to 195mm, while the big pro 4 is 191mm- 305mm, so unless you are needing this largest size there are cams available on the market.

Problem with the cams are size, weight and price.

MMO: how long will it take to get some into the country?

Off widths grab me (aalot) & so have acumulated the kit (most spoilt climber in SA).

Bros are a novelty. You won't use them nearly as much as you think. Cams way out play bros. Bros will most likely cost you more than cams & fricking beastly to carry.

A BIG BRO will cost you same or more vs. a cam.
About R800 for the smallest one, R2,000 for the biggest one. ETA would be 2 months (we import stuff via ocean shipping).

I do think you should listen to the advice of Warren and Derek.
I have done a fair bit of off-width climbing myself too. You aren't ever going to trust a dodgy BIG BRO like you would a bomber cam. But if your crack is so wide that the biggest camalot won't fit then you are going to have to resort to a big big bro.

I am really curious what's up there in the Nieuwoudtville mountains?
The only crack I know where a big cam is required is Energy Crisis @ Wolfberg, and the big BD #6 works fine higher up.

Thanks for the advise about the use and placements of the Bro's Dereck! I think my facsination with them might be to do with the curiosity factor, about the tools you don't have and the things you haven't tried..

I do have quite a couple of the big size cams, but after this input I think I'll double up on them, rather than try the big bro, unless there's some forgotten ones floating around in someone's attic that they need to get rid of...

The waterfall in your pic is the local one at Nieuwoudtville, spectacular little karoo gorge with the water dropping 60m. The rock unfortunately is real chossy, very much like the white Free State sandstone. So apart from highlining, abseiling, bouldering and other vertical fun, there's no real climbing potential.

The "Waterval Storieboek" is at Gifberg though, 50km down the road..
