Hi Guys

Yesterday we had a great day opening new routes in a new area- basically across the road from Wolfberg-but found some tat on the one massif and so someone obviously got there first. I can't find any reference to the area on the Wiki, and so I write this post.

I thought it might be the Pup, as I haven't climbed there, but looking at where that is verses where we were and they are clearly not the same place.

From Sandrift you drive back towards the N7 perhaps 3 kms; passed the farm, then on your left is a good dirt road that runs behind a vineyard with a major fence. The road does a series of folks and in among the folks are boulders. like. lots. Mainly the boulders are of the pillar variety that typifies Cederberg, but on the tops of the hills are larger block worthy of a rope, and in between the pillars are boulders worth attention.

The area makes a lot of sense if you are in the same situation that we were in: the weekends weather was intermittent, and we didn't want to commit to Wolfberg for fear of being caught out. We had just about climbed out Sandrift on Saturday, but faced the same weather on Sunday. The nearest day of escapable climbing is Rocklands, but that is an hour north. knowing that there is an area so close and easily accessable from Sandrift offers great confidence before leaving home, that is you can't head up the hill, and you have climbed Sandrift Crag one time too many you can climb something in the area that is great rock, close by with 1 minute walk in.

Can anyone help? If not we are going to have to think of names...

There is a hike/MTB trail to a rock tower called Lots Wife. As far as I know that entire area belongs to the Niewoudts of Dwarsrivier Farm (Cederberg Cellars). I doubt that there would be a problem if you just wanted to trad or top rope but any bolting would not be allowed without their express permission and approval from the MCSA.

Any pics? sounds nice.

Would be good to have more Sandrift like crags in the area.

by the sound of it the area sounds better suited to sport climbing? would be great to have more sport (and bouldering) in the area. there are some proper cliffs and boulders on the plateau stretching from the top of the wolfberg cracks to wolfberg arch, but the walk in is probably going to kill any serious interest.

truitjieskraal is a very viable day trip from sanddrif; we often go there if the trad psyche disappears
