Not that many full time coaches around. The sport is too small in SA.

Who do you currently climb with?
What do you want to achieve?

One way to improve is to join a club / climbing gym: MCSA, Wits, Wonderwall, the new one in Sandton, etc.

If you wanna pay for a coach:
Go hang out at Wits club (or another). Look for a student who climbs good and match your personality, and make him an offer. Students always need cash...

peace

Hi

We do adult training courses, and some of the top climbers also offer private training at the SA Climbing Academy. If you keen drop me an email on info@saclimbingacademy.co.za.

You can do it by yourself if you are motivated enough. First is to focus on your feet. Always watch where and how you place them.Make sure when you place your foot, it's done in a quiet, precise manner. That's the start :thumright

Getting back to Snorts comments, I agree that the best climber is the one having the most fun- and as this is a definition we would need to add more, such as discipline related points: do you have the best sport, boulder, trad, mountaineer, ice climbers as separate categories, or do you have an average of them all? Perhaps it would be better to say "Best Rock Climber"

Hi Wayne,

I personally think it's cool that you are looking for a coach. There is honestly too much the "figure it out on your own" mentality in climbing. Climbing is technical and to get better at something technical, it always best to engage a coach/expert etc. My analogy is swimming. Swimming is technical. If you are not a highly efficient swimmer you can train 10km a day and you are unlikey to progress past a certain point. Get your stroke and technique right and you'll go much faster.

Neal (SA climbing academy) is a great place to start, they've got some really good/technically proficient climbers that train and work there. I'm sure one of them will be willing to coach you.

Good luck
Jurgen
