Re: Lion's Head
Since the Platteklip records are a fair bit faster than that (27:52 up, 11:43 down) , I'd guess the Lion's Head times to be significantly quicker.
Re: Lion's Head
I believe there is a select group who has done the up and down under 30min.
Not sure what the record is, but it is under 20 min up and under 10 min down

must be under 20 minutes. I've done lower cable to tea cave on TM in 30 minutes.

Re: Lion's Head
gentle run up. climb white face. run down. hadley weight and i typically do it in an hour. without really rushing it.
Re: Lion's Head
With all that shiny new metal up there, it should be easy to set a new record!
I used to jog up there, it's definitely doable in under 20min, if there is no traffic.

Thanks guys.. @ Mullet & Brussel, surely that's under 20 minutes going up only? Can't imagine going up and down in 20 minutes. My best is 38 minutes up and down but I've also heard of people doing it in under 30 minutes and I like to try get there. It's bloody hard shaving off those 8 minutes though. Where does one start the clock? The Parking lot or the boom? Not that it makes a huge difference. Thanks again for the info!
Re: Lion's Head
i've got up in 20min flat. i dont normally push for time coming down, but i would imagine it to be about 15min down. I've heard of guys getting up and down in 30min. I do lions head as part of all round fitness training, usually 3 or 4 times a week and I've never had anyone pass me. Time is heavily dependant on weather and crowds, dont try rush on a hot summers evening if there's a full moon!

Re: Lion's Head
Fastest time up that I know is 17:56 held by Greg Goodall. A sub 20 up is taxing and still after 3years not something Ive achieved. Would be very tricky to up and down in 30min. A good pace down without completely destroying the knees is 16mins.

An interesting bit of info for those who care.
Still not sure what the official record time is.

Re: Lion's Head
I used to run up L H quite a lot years ago - 20 or more - now I'm closing in on a half a century. Today my trail running is only for pleasure not pain. Always have been bit of a slug going up (fastest time up back then was 22.30) but once the animal turned around and started coming down, the brain cells went missing and I could do the down in 13 minutes. Every now and then to add a bit more spice to the mix I'd not use the hands on the ladders up or down and forget about the chains by descending next to them (using hands here of course).
