Antibiotics and their effect on tendons

I was chatting to a friend about this late last year (antibiotics and their effect on tendons). His doctor prescribed him an antibiotic and did not warn him about the possible side effects (knowing full well that he was a climber).

The antibiotic in question mention is from the fluroquinolone family (Cipro, Levaquin, Floxin, Noroxin, etc.). The FDA has required the manufacturer to display the strongest Black Box warning as of mid-2008 due to tendon pathologies such as tendon rupture, tendonitis and tendonosis.

Oh great...and I am away for a month on antibiotics every day for malaria prevention :(
Meh, let's hope this stuff doesn't do the same :)

The antibiotic used for malaria prevention is doxycyline, completely different stuff, so no worries Cuan.
