People living on table mountain

Postby Ansie » Thu Aug 25, 2011 8:32 pm

Hi
I just saw something interesting on the SABC3 program " A Country Imagined". Todays show was about Capetown and briefly featured some guys who live on the mountain. Now these guys are not your garden variety "boemelaar" type bergies. They weave clothes from plant fibres and eat berries and roots. They look happy and healthy and in harmony with nature. They don't eat fish or birds because they believe that these creatures are their "brothers". Sometimes when they do go into the city people give them money which they use to buy vegetables. I was just wondering if any Capetonian climbers have ever seen these guys?

jip, see them quite often when i'm mountain biking in deerpark; they collect roots & berries around the streams in the ravines. they're friendly and seem harmless. total rasta vibe.

Think one of them sell herbs and stuff in town by the entrance to the station.

Hi.
I met similar folk just outside Touws River in December last year, on my way to the Karoo. They said they were on a pilgrimage to Table Mountain. They had left the KZN with only water and had spent a month on the road. They also spoke about being at one with their brothers.
Has anyone seen them recently, and where on the mountain, as I would like to meet them again.
