Hi there,

i am new to this forum, so please forgive me if this info is already on the forum.

We will be visiting south africa and need gas for the jetboil.

Is there a place on the way from JHB to the Drakensberg that offers gas for camping stoves?

Many Thanks,

fontana

Assuming you are flying into OR Thambo, your nearst retailer selling JB Gas is Trappers Eastrand: R21 south until it intersects with North Rand Road (the first robot), left then look out for a Mcdonalds on the left about a kilometer down the road. http://www.trappers.co.za/index.php/where-to-buy.html. talk to them about getting on to the N3 for the 'berg after, but its easy too.

Please do not judge JHB by Boksburg/Eastrand: just because you have only seen the armpit doesn't mean the body isn't beautiful.

Most of the larger camping stores stock gas cannisters, ie. Cape Union Mart, Drifters, try to purchase in Johannesburg before leaving for the Drakensgberg.

I have a different question. where can I dispose a gas cannister in the Cape Town area? :?

Nice one Warren

Michelle, assuming your gas canister is empty, just put it in with the metal recycling. If there is gas inside, I'm sure someone would be happy to take the canister of your hands for you.

Hi Michelle!

the best bet is to puncture the unit, then recycle it as you would any other metal. Jetboil do a tool called the "Crunch it" which releases the gas inside the unit before you squeeze down and put a hole in the gas cylander. I think all the regular suspects hold the Crunch it

Thanks for your replies.

So there is nothing at Winterton, Estcourt or Bergville?

Hi evereybody,

we found gas cartridges in bergville.
Though these weren't compatible with jetboil only for lanterns.

But now there's another question:
I will be climbing around cape town soon...

Where in/ or Around Cape Town can I find gas cartridges which are compatible with the jet boil?

Thanks a lot,

f.
