Cheap and nasty Chinese quality? Mass production and low labour rates do not make for quality life saving gear.

Abnormal break point, normaly hangers would deform before breaking.

Eastern press companies buy up rejected sheets or stainless scrap to produce small press parts cheap. Sick

The worrying part is how much gear is already in the market manufactured under license in China. It would be wise to check where your gear is actually manufactured even if branded by a reputable European or USA company.
I know for a fact that a lot of USA companies outsource to Eastern foundries to cut cost. Scary if you consider the implications!

That wouldn't solve the particular problem:A great deal of companies that have products manufactured in China also own the factories and have a very close contact with the production accordingly. One can't assume because one brands had one bad product made in China all products made in China by all brands are bad.

The problem is us, the consumer: we demand cheap stuff and don't care where is comes from or who made it so long as you don't have to spend too much money on it. Do you know about Apple's supplier Foxconn? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foxconn. What about Monsanto? I consider them the most evil company in the world. The point I am making is yes, know what your are purchasing and know where it comes from, but don't paint everything from one nation with the same brush, that is simply lazy Xenophobia.

That happen to me in Suesca Colombia, the hanger was at the anchor of the route, I just clip an the hanger brakes, I fell almost ten meters, nothing happen to me but I´m really scare about climbing now. It¨s really bad for CLIMB X and for the climbers community that this happens, I hope that an accident never occurs with a tragic end.

Are there any routes in SA that are bolted with climb X hangers?

If so I think it would be a good idea to strip them. :?

Even if they do, we need to educate the community about them, and ensure they are never used.

Is there no UIAA (or UIAA-like) certification for hangers and fixed gear?

If there is, isn't it trivial to declare it a felony to sell non-certified hangers or to bolt routes with said hangers?

I'm pretty sure policing this wouldn't be impossible.
