Is it possible to just join the MSCA on their website, no strings attached?
Just for the sake of having membership and not having to pay for access etc.

So this is the Cape town registratio form: http://mcsacapetown.co.za/join-mcsa
Is seems like it is as simple as paying and BAM you are a member.
Are you not required to do a few hikes etc?

Not for the CT section, just pay and that's it.

Can't comment on the rest of the country with the exception of the Hottentots Holland Section where you pay and have to do a couple of hikes as a well as a work meet.

Joburg, you need to do 17 hikes, campus at least 1-4-7, 2 workmeets, sign over your soul and drink the blood of a freshly slaughtered chicken in a pentagram at midnight. I think, unless they have changed it

Think you need 3 year special forces training, identify 50 different butterfles, tie 20 knots blindfolded with one hand and atleast 1000 friends on Facebook. That's what I heard last

KZN section - fill in the application, pay and join. Preferably also participate in club activities (that's the point right?)

Our constitution has provisions allowing us to kick you out if you bring the club into disrepute - so we assume you're innocent unless/until proven guilty...

An individual joins a section of the MCSA - i.e. Johannesburg or Magalies in Gauteng.
Every sections entry rules are different - some will require the person to go on meets, some not - but most still need a member or two to recommend the person (sign on the application). You should also typically provided a number of id photos for the membership card.

This application will then be reviewed by the section's committee and approved (pending paying of fees ...) or not.

It is not an overnight process and may take a few weeks.

JOIN EXPLORATIO, its the TUKS adventure club, R380 for the year, with this we have been given 10 MCSA membership cards that can be used with an explo card and this allows you to access any MCSA place with the same benefits as any MCSA member.

You also gain access to our club facilities and gear.

Ebert
we all climb as hard as each other, just a personal opinion on the grade that differs

All MCSA section should follow the excellent lead of the CT section, with ppl like Ant, Douw and Delaney in the mix, keeping it relevant, young and real. And it seems like KZN is pretty efficient too...;)

You need to attend 4 meets for the JHB section within a 12 month period, after paying your provisional membership fee, i have attend 3 meets thus far, and think its a good process, you get to meet different people and experience the mountains in different ways, and i think anybody that is climbing should be a MCSA member its the right think to do, irrespective of the benefits!

I love 'old' people because they are wise. The 'new and real' refers to peeps who thinks fax machines are modern... :eye:
Some systems needs upgrading, imho, and since I'm probably opening up a can of snakes here, I'd like to end my rant off with: you are as old as you feel!
Awe :thumright

What is the procedure for cancelling membership? Not that this applies to me, it is just that I like to know what this is.

Send in a resignation. (this is where Turtle's fax would come in handy)

Or default on paying your annual subscription.
