Hi,
I am very interested in taking up the sport.
Are there any indoor walls in the Durbanville / Bellville areas?
Saw a post regarding the Tygerberg medic campus, but the wall doesn't seem to be open to general public.

hey annelie,

The medics wall is the closest training spot to Durbanville/Bellville and we've got a good group of regulars that train there 2 or 3 times a week. There will prob be a bunch of us there tomorrow (Monday) eve after work. I'm sending you a pm with all the details, just watch your e-mail.

Hope to see you there

Hey, I also live out that way, but work in Tokai...so hit up City Rock on the way home from work, or outside if I can find people to climb with...

What is the deal with this wall in Durbanville area? Whereabouts is it?

One point I neglected earlier was that I'm a new climber, so I would have to either rent gear or buy some gear. A point in the right direction would help.

Hi
I would recommend that you start off with only shoes and a harness the rest you can wing :)
As long as you enjoy it the rest will follow :)

Yes, second hand will do. But I recommend buying these two items new, you can always sell them off second hand later on.

Shoes: Cheaper ones that are comfortable
Harness: Cheaper is fine, but get a padded one

The reason I say buy new is that it may take you a while to find the correct gear second hand. You've got someone offering to show you the ropes right now so I wouldn't bother wasting time on trying to save a couple of hundred rand.

See the Garage Sale section of this site for second hand goods (you might just find the right things)
Enjoy :)

Hi Annelie (and all other Northern Suburbs climbers)
Sorry for the belated reply. Have a decent bouldering wall in my garage in Welgemoed. Usually train between 12h15 - 13h45 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Send me an email if you are interested: willem at propell point coza.

We soon realised that we are “WAY” too ambitious and we are nowhere near good enough to blotch ourselves up 18 + gradings. Motivated to conquer those climbs that humiliated us,
