Off-width - Hell crack

Postby Camp » Fri Oct 18, 2013 10:13 pm

Anyone wanting to impress, I have a rare thing in KZN which needs attention - a beautiful, very steep off-width which will test the best.
All I have to show for it are scars. Bolted up and ready to go. Porter?

I amongst some granite boulders at Phezulu. Arrangements have to be made for access. The only photo does not do it justice - not showing the steep part.

What you can't see is the near 45 degree bit hidden by the trees.

Alex Honnold may disagree - but then again he seems to think The Nose is a bouldering route...

between monties and drumond?
have you tried the other boulders in the back ground? those look like bouldering matarial.
when you going there again?

Yup same boulders. Fun bouldering, but not everybody's cup of tea - edgy and steep slab or vertical, and if it is to steep -- I don't know, but I doubt it.

Yes, bolted. You can only appreciate why when you are there.Matt, if you want to 'mat' it I don't want to be there. Base is very gnarly, and you will break more than a leg falling off higher up.

I'm not passing judgement in any way, but I'm curious why it can't be climbed on trad gear? is the rock shit?

Let me know if you need a belay - I enjoy watching people climb off-widths :thumleft:

I was also wondering about that. Surely some big hexes or cams would do?

It can be done on gear - with biiiiibg cams. The bolts were placed to make it workable on top-rope.
