Du Toits Route Book

Post by SNORT » Mon Jun 12, 2017 3:29 pm

Work on a comprehensive route guide to the Du Toits Kloof area is almost done. I would appreciate anyone reading this post to send me photos (for which you will be credited), stories, trivia and articles of any first ascents you have done in the Du Toit's Kloof mountains for inclusion. I shall publish the first edition as a .pdf quite soon with most of the routes documented at YW amphitheatre, ravine and Chess pieces. Readers are welcome to provide me corrections and edits and photos that I shall include. Ultimately, once it is "mature" I shall publish a copy in print.

You assistance and contributions are kindly requested.

Thank you Snort

I look forward to reading it! SA only has 2 ultras, and Du Toit's has about 200m topographical prominence on Seweweekspoort, making Du Toits SA's most prominent mountain. Definitely a peak I have to bag some time!

This is awesome, Snort!
Does this include Witteberg, Hellfire, Elands River and Krom River areas, etc.?

I am starting with YW ravine and the Chess Pieces. The new routes done in the area over the last 5 years or so. Hellfire has a route book in print.

I shall then include the other routes in the area as and when I get time and inclination.

If that is the approach I reckon do it pdf only then you can grow it as you have time.

Awesome. All I really want from a trad RD is the ability to carry it with me easily i.e. on my phone. I usually resort to taking pictures of the guidebooks.
Happy climbing
