Why must people bring their dogs onto the mountain when they are rock climbing so that their dog can go and sit on other peoples ropes when they are trying to belay. If you want to spend quality time with your dog why don't you spend it at home or somewhere else where your dog doesn't get in the way?

I had a climbing partner who insisted that his dog go on every trip. Its dam irritating. Worse: he never brought extra water or a dish along, so often my water was poured slowly for the dog to drink from the air...wasteful.

It's not very nice to speak about women like that Drifter. You should know better than that.

I talking about animals not women. You don't have to be nasty, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. There are some woman out there who might not find you attractive.

Marshal I think you need to have a polite word with your climbing partner that your water is for you and they must bring water for their dog, it is not the dogs fault that it doesn't have water it is the owners fault.

Drifter, you and Guy should get together to have little muttering sessions about dogs. I was there, the dog wasnt being completely polite - it snapped at me and stood on my rope as well, but sheesh dude, if its such a big hassle for you then take it up with the people directly. Or drop a rock on the mutt's head.

Posting anonymous hate mail on the message board just makes you look like a jackass without actually achieving any positive outcomes.

Drifter,

Dude, you really like complaining dont you? first the free rope bag fiasco and now the dog?

small tip, if you have a problem with someone/something first talk to the people involved before you complain on a forum and make your name gat.

I dont like seeing dogs at crags either but only because the dogs usually dont have water to drink or shade to lie in and they leave neat little piles of sh*t where people are walking.

next time take the time to complain face to face, better results and less people flaming you. :o

Let nobody accuse me of hiding behind anonymous posts in a forum. Having had my rant against Tim-2-dogs - I'm consider launching a campaign against the selfish bastards who do not have the common decency to pick up their dog’s shit in Newlands Forest. What is wrong with these people?

To be honest not all dog owners let their dogs run wild though a few ruin it for the rest. It doesn't bother me that much though I just don't think it is polite to allow your dog to go running around sitting on peoples rope it is inconsiderate.

What?! Ban Rastus from the crags?! You must be joking!!! You obviously have no idea how many climbers in the jhb area attribute their best climbing performances to Rastus being there at the time. Hell, Andrew Pedley was once willing to leave Dirk behind to make space for Rastus-all the more impressive considering that it was the first climbing trip in his brand new super-mobile. At the end Dirk got his way and what happened? After they got mugged at the Coven even Dirk agreed that it was a mistake to choose him over Rastus. Look at what happened a couple of weeks ago when mr R wasn't there to protect those poor souls who got robbed at the wilds. A couple of his deep \"Woofs\" would have sorted out the situation. And what would Bronkies be like without the climb called (you guessed it)\"Rastus\"? Whoever opened that line but s/he sure showed some respect/ appreciation! Mr R has been on the scene for longer than most of you have been climbing. Hopefully he never gets to read your hate mail.

There was ONLY ONE ghost that went MIA, because he did not stick to the trail, ok?

So let that be a lesson, before I let him loose again.

Did you say goat?

I totally understand what you guys are saying.

My dog is really wound up and basically f*@k's anything with two, three or four legs. The other climbers get pretty pissed at me when he starts humping their back pack, rope bag or girl friend's leg. A few months ago he dissappeared near Boven - Restaurant Crags- for a few weeks after he took off chasing a pack of baboons.

The other day I was climbing with Gustav and you wouldn't believe what we spotted....check this out!

PS. I'm looking for good Boven pics for a slide show in the USA and Canada. If you want to share please ping me at chris@miraiusa.com

Thanks,
