Learning how to set routes

Post by Tropicalcrags7 »

Hi there,

Any route setters on the forum willing to give insight on the trade? Want to learn how to do so as there is no rock climbing in my country and would like to set up some sport climbing routes.

The scope of this subject is way too vast to go into on a forum. I suggest getting the "Bolting Bible"
https://www.slackademics.com/boltingbible
It is written by slack-liners but applicable to climbing too.
Also just read as much as you can on the subject in the various forums - we learnt bolting by trial and error - not the way to go. The results are a lot of routes that are either dangerous or simply not that easy to work the moves on and climb. Read my post above "Bolting considerations" for a tidbit of insight you may not glean elsewhere.

By setting routes for a sport climb, do you mean on an artificial surface, like a climbing wall?
