It was a cool, cloudy Autumn day, with the weather looking quite dodgy at first. But that didn’t deter anyone.
In the end 20+ people showed up today for the ARF meet @ Chimney Head! The clouds cleared soon enough and gave way to a HOWLING southeaster.
*Note:Skoorsteenskop is no place to be on a a South-Easter day….
We had 61 bolts, 20 top anchors, 18 muffins, 17 guys, 14 doughnuts, 7 ropes, 5 drills, 4 spare batteries, 3 gals (!), 1 glue gun and last but not least 1 angle grinder.
Most were exhausted by the time we left. In fact we ran out of bolts in the end! WOW
40 anchors and 10 lower off rings on the following:
- In Gods Country
- Stairway to Heaven (completed)
- Rapture
- Lichen or Not
- Breaking Point (only 1st 2 bolts)
- Kids Day Out
- V
- Cereal Killer
We did manage to drill ALL the holes. We will need to do another small trip to chop old bolts and do glue-ins on 3 remaining routes, but at least we are done drilling and carrying all that stuff up there.
So Skoorsteenskop is back in business. Access is sorted. Call 021-790-9333 to get the gate code. Park at: 32 Whittlers Way. Walk up: Past the property at the top. Left, to the end, then up. Easy!
There are some great routes up there, ranging from grade 17 to 23. The 23’s are the best ones on the Peninsula. So we have a safe and accessible alternative to Silvermine again!
Thank you everyone who donated their time and/or equipment.
Big up to the following people who came to help out 🙂

Hi folks – sorry for the late notice, but a couple of us will be heading up to Skoorsteenskop tomorrow to finish off the rebolting we started 2 weeks ago. If you are keen to come along to lend a hand and climb some of the rebolted routes we will be meeting at the Whittlers Way gate at 12h00.
