  1. Structure of events

The Open Provincial Lead Competition:

The Open Provincial Lead competition will start with the qualifier rounds.

  • The Open and Novice (Men and Women) will start and have 1 attempt each to climb 1 route. They will be scored by the highest hold they reach on the route and by the time it takes them to reach that hold.
  • Please note that before the competitors climb each route, the rules will be explained (beta) by a route setter. This will be done for each group.
  • A touch of the hold (however slight) constitutes a try.

  • Climbers must comfortably hold the last hold on their attempt for at least 3 seconds or until the judge acknowledges in order to qualify it as a “used” and scored hold.

  • Both Qualifier Rounds are Flash.

Open Semi and Final:

  • The best Ten Open and Novice Women and the best Ten Open and Novice Men from the Qualifying Round will go through to the Semi-Final Round
  • The best Six Open and Novice Women and the best Six Open and Novice Men from the Semi-Final Round will go through to the Final Round
  • The Semi-Finalist and Finalist groups will be allowed to view the 1 Semi-Final and 1 Final route respectively for 5 minutes before going into isolation.
  • The Open and Novice Women will compete first, followed by the Open and Novice Men.
  • The individual competitor will be taken to the route via a “belayer”. The competitor must have his shoes and harness on and have his chalk. The Competitor must already be tied in and have been checked by his belayer and be accompanied by his belayer to the route. The competitor will have 30 seconds to view the route and only one attempt to do the route.
  • Final rankings are calculated according to the top holds reached or highest hold reached. No flash points are given.

  • Climbers must comfortably hold the finishing hold for at least 3 seconds or until the judge acknowledges.
